In times of uncertainty, like during a pandemic, it’s more important than ever to prioritize our health and well-being. Regular exercise not only boosts your immune system but also helps relieve stress. However, setting up a home gym might seem challenging, especially if you’re short on space or working with a limited budget.
This post is for those of you who want to create a workout space in the comfort of your own home but feel like you don’t have enough room. I’ll share our personal experience of setting up a mini home gym and how you can make the most out of even the smallest spaces.
Our Home Gym Journey
When my family bought our home, we got lucky. The previous owners had built an extra room behind the garage to use as a gym, and they left their gym equipment behind when they moved out of state. It was a win-win for us. They didn’t want to bring their air-pressure gym machines, and we were more than happy to take them.
With that foundation in place, we decided to add a few essentials. We found an elliptical machine and a treadmill at a local thrift store for only $30, and we picked up some dumbbells as well. Over time, this small collection of equipment has become the heart of our workout routine.
My husband, Novel, mainly uses the weights and the punching bag, while I tend to stick to the cardio machines. We found that renovating the space helped us use it more consistently—especially after I gave birth to our daughter, Andi. Before then, we only used it occasionally. Now, it’s an essential part of our weekly routine.
No Gym Room? No Problem!
Not everyone has the luxury of dedicating an entire room to a gym. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a home workout space. Here are some practical tips for building a functional mini gym, even in the smallest of spaces.
1. Start with Compact, Multifunctional Equipment
When you’re working with limited space, you need to make every inch count. The key is to invest in compact, multifunctional fitness equipment. For example, a set of adjustable dumbbells can replace several traditional sets and won’t take up much space. You can also look for foldable equipment like yoga mats, resistance bands, and even collapsible weight benches.
If you’re ready to invest in some home gym essentials, consider checking out these highly rated [adjustable dumbbells](#) and [resistance bands](#) (insert affiliate link). These items are perfect for small spaces and don’t break the bank.
2. Maximize Vertical Space
Don’t just think about your floor space; use your walls as well! Wall-mounted racks can hold dumbbells, kettlebells, and resistance bands, keeping them off the floor. Another great option is a foldable wall-mounted squat rack, which can easily be stored when not in use.
Additionally, consider hanging a mirror on one wall. Not only will it give you a proper view of your form during workouts, but it can also make the space feel larger.
3. Incorporate Portable Equipment
For those who truly don’t have room for bulky gym machines, portable workout tools are the way to go. Jump ropes, resistance bands, and even ankle weights are lightweight, compact, and highly effective for cardio and strength training.
Zumba and High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts are excellent ways to get your heart rate up without the need for a treadmill or elliptical machine. When I don’t feel like using the gym, I’ll often turn to YouTube for Zumba or HIIT routines (here’s one of my favorite [HIIT workouts]).
Affordable Gym Essentials for Every Space
It doesn’t take a large investment to set up a mini gym at home. Whether you have an entire room to dedicate to fitness or you’re working out in a small corner of your living room, you can still create an effective workout space. Here are some affordable gym essentials that won’t take up much space:
– Dumbbells or Kettlebells: These are versatile tools for strength training and don’t require much room. Look for adjustable options to save space.
– Resistance Bands: A great alternative to weights, resistance bands are compact, portable, and effective for both strength and mobility training.
– Yoga Mat: Whether you’re doing yoga, Pilates, or bodyweight exercises, a yoga mat is essential for any home workout space.
– Jump Rope: Perfect for cardio, jump ropes are inexpensive and easy to store. Plus, they’re a fun way to get your heart rate up in a small space.
– Foam Roller: A foam roller is great for post-workout recovery and doesn’t require much storage space.
These items are all affordable, effective, and easy to store. You can find many of them through [this link](#) (insert affiliate link) for great deals and options.
Renovating Your Space for Motivation
We found that renovating our home gym space gave us extra motivation to use it regularly. Whether it’s painting the walls a fresh color, adding inspirational wall art, or installing better lighting, making your space inviting will help you stay consistent with your workouts.
Even if you don’t have a dedicated gym room, you can still create an inspiring environment in any corner of your home. Add some workout posters, a motivational playlist, or even a small plant to brighten the space. The more inviting it feels, the more likely you are to use it.
Making the Most of Small Spaces
If you’re working with a very small area, here are some additional tips to make the most of the space:
1. Use Furniture Wisely: Multi-functional furniture, like a foldable bench or a storage ottoman, can double as workout equipment storage.
2. Keep It Organized: When working in a tight space, keeping your equipment organized is key. Use baskets, shelves, or wall hooks to store equipment when not in use.
3. Get Creative with Outdoor Spaces: If you have access to a balcony or small backyard, take your workouts outside! Outdoor spaces are great for bodyweight exercises, jump rope, or yoga sessions.
The Importance of Consistency
It doesn’t matter how big or small your home gym is—what really matters is how consistently you use it. With a little creativity and the right equipment, you can get an effective workout in any room of your house. Remember to set aside time for regular workouts and stick to a routine that works for you.
Final Thoughts: Build Your Mini Gym Today
Building a functional mini gym in any room is possible, even if you’re working with limited space. Whether you want to focus on strength training, cardio, or both, the right equipment and a bit of creativity can go a long way.
We hope our experience has given you some inspiration to create your own workout space at home. Start small, add essentials as needed, and most importantly, make it a space you’ll want to use regularly. Being a mom with a full time day job and a blog on the side. It is really hard to keep up and work out or even go to a gym. It is almost close to impossible at times. But of course I work in the Medical field so I gotta be fit and to also to be a good example to my kids.
So the question I get a lot is How do I stay fit without a gym membership? Honestly, I have my own gym at home but I never really go there and use the equipment. What I do is….
I usually do it at night, all my workout. At least 30 mins and at least 3-4x a week. I just started back again January as I really wanna be toned by Spring. I am looking forward to our up coming trip for Adi’s 7th birthday.
Most of them you already have at home. It is the disciple and staying focus is the hard part. Let’s all be a better us this year.
Happy Hump Day and thank you for stopping by.

It is almost summer but it is never too late to start your exercise either just to be fit or to trim down. You shouldn’t be doing exercises for summer only anyway. It should be all year round.
Let me share to you some of the exercises that I do at home just to keep me moving. It is free and easy and it’ll make you sweat.
1. Zumba (using YouTube) if you do not have time to go to the gym, or if you just want to do it by yourself and does not want to spend money on membership. Whatever you reason maybe this Zumba dances will surely make you sweat.
Follow this link on YouTube
2. Brisk walking either in your own yard or in your neighborhood. this is a good cardio exercises specially for those people who cannot do strenuous activities.
3. Walking your dog (this is also kind of like brisk walking) so if you have a pet dog, this will also be a good exercises for both of you, your bonding. It improves your mood and blood circulation.
4. Download a free workout plan to follow. https://simplychristianne.com/2015/05/01/free-workout-app/

How to start a workout routine before the holidays is a good question and here are the answers to help you get started. In everything that we do if we want to become successful we have to have a plan and determination. And working out really needs those 2 in my opinion.
I have been consistently working out last year at least 3-5 x a week and I know I have already built the routine. So I know it is easy for me to say these things. But for starters, what really works is find a workout buddy. Last year my workout buddy started to be my daughter Adi and we always just follow Zumba classes on YouTube in our living room. Then the pandemic hit, he have a home gym that we honestly seldom used and became our hub when we had the lockdown. Then the whole family became my workout buddy.
But eventually, I started feeling short as the kids started taekwondo so they no longer workout with us and my husband started working again. I just started losing it, then my friend asked me to do a virtual workout together and we have been doing it for 3 weeks now.
Keep repeating it to make it a routine so you won’t feel guilty binging through the Holiday season. Also plan your meals, I know I am falling on this myself lately. So been trying to eat good during the week and working towards going back religiously creating our weekly meal plan. Check out this post on my workout routine and meal plan to find out how I stay in shape and have energy for my 3 kids.

What makes working out fun is to have a workout buddy. So today I am sharing our mommy and me workout buddy system. I am so glad I have a daughter who loves to workout with me, she is even stronger because she used to do gymnastics.
We just started with just following some of the Zumba strong workouts on Youtube which are like 20-30 minutes each. Then we did HIIT workouts together. And this 2021 we are taking it another level and we are going to follow the Bodyboss Method for 12 straight weeks. We do cardio in between like Zumba dance and as a whole family workout in our home gym which I have shared here.
This is another good way to start if you can have a buddy that is willing to be sweaty with you. Not necessarily a daughter but somebody who is already with you at home specially now during this Pandemic/quarantine period. This is a good way and safest way to do it and to stay home and stay fit this 2021. Let us make our immune system strong.
If you do not have a home gym, Your living room is the best bet or just a small space in your room. There are a lot of workouts to choose from. Or just owning a spin cycle doesn’t take up much space either. This is a good one to invest with in your home if you are ready to be serious at it and not let get it dusty after few usage. Let’s start 2021 Fit and strong all year long! Sounds like a good slogan isn’t it?
Thank you so much for stopping by and hoping I was able to give another insight for all of you to get inspired.

Happy 2021 everyone! I am so happy to be back doing my first blog post for this year. It has been a while since I posted here on the blog and one of the things I want to accomplish this year is to be consistent.
2020 was very unprecedented but we all learned a lot from it and I know it all made us stronger. I always think what doesn’t kill you make you stronger. New Year, New You is the way for me to start challenging myself again. I am here to continue to inspire women like me and we can be better. I have been getting a lot of compliments saying I am doing well and also question on how I manage to do it all like having 3 kids, full time PT job, a blog and a small business making custom shirts visit our shop here. As I always say, I have been blessed to have my mom here with us to help us with the kids and also my husband who is my partner with our business and my photographer for my blog. Even with all those things, I am still not were I really wanted to be.
I have made a lot of goals last year and I was able to get some done but due to inconsistency I wasn’t really able to achieve what I really wanted. I want my blog to turn around for good and for our small business to continue to pick up in the hopes of making it our full time family business. Our workout has been somewhat almost consistent this year as we were able to really able to utilize our home gym and do a lot of exercises as a family.
So this year, My mantra is “If it is to be, It’s up to me.” I am holding myself accountable, it can only happen if the change starts with me. I cannot get a different result doing same things. This week, since I took a week off from work. I started a diet (following a recipe book from the same workout plan I use and also note eating junk food) before the New Year and stick with it. I was able to accomplish my goal in 3 days. So If I continue to do this consistently and continue to be disciplined, I know I will be able to reach my goal. I started back working out 6 weeks after I gave birth to Andi and check out my fitness journey here.
So this is for us ladies who wants to challenge themselves this year a be a better version of ourselves. I know I really need to work on this as this year I will be 40. I am not getting any younger and really have to take care of myself and to be serious with me being my own boss.
Thank you for reading and stopping by to see what Simplychristianne is up this year. I assure you that I will continue to make good content for all of you for more affordable fashion but will continue to mix some high end ones. Let me know what topics you would like for me to talk about here. Thank you for sticking with me.
Wishing you all and Happy, Blessed and Healthy New Year!

Fitness Journey after Third Baby, sharing how I am keeping up to be the healthier version of me and how I was able to do it.
I just wanna let you all know I will not be able to do this without the support of my husband. He always pushes me and motivates me. Even before we got married. I told him that if I become unhealthy and if I will go out of the healthy BMI (body mass index) it means he doesn’t care about me anymore because he is not noticing it.
So right after pregnancy, I waited to get a clearance from my doctor when I can start working out again. Before then, while o=still on maternity leave. My in laws, me and my husband worked on improving our home gym. As you can see on the picture below and also to get you updated in case you missed the first part of my fitness journey here.
Let me start of with my diet. I do not particularly follow a certain diet. I do have the body boss cookbook and just got the recipes that I really liked. I used to follow this before I got pregnant. I do meal prep, my favorite is just baking mixed vegetables like, asparagus, mixed bell peppers, Brussel sprouts, yellow squash, mushroom. I drizzle olive oil, Parmesian cheese and chili powder and salt and pepper. This usually becomes my lunch for the work week and ceasar salad for dinner or protein shake after workout, the oat meal and eggs for breakfast. I cut down on sweets, this is hard because it is my weakness.
My workout routine is I follow the bodyboss method. I have been really trying to incorporate this every week. My husband and I give ourselves at least 40 mins a day 4-5x a week for this. I have not returned to my pre-pregnancy weight but I feel so much better now and has more energy.
It is just a matter of giving time to work on yourself a day and also eating healthy. We are also trying to be a good example to our children as a healthcare professional. I have been seeing a lot of young people being sick, their condition is worst that most of the elderly patients that I always work with. It is about lifestyle.
I hope I was able to inspire you guys specially the mamas out there.
Thank you for stopping by.

Christianne
