What Is A Shacket?

A shacket is a hybrid between a shirt and a jacket. Exactly like the same implies. They come in plenty of colors, patterns (like plaid shackets), and styles (like cropped, short, and long shackets). So its easy to find the perfect one for you, or maybe two or three.

Usually, they are made of heavier materials like flannel, corduroy, faux leather, denim, or wool. After all, they are meant to keep you warmer than just a shirt. But any heavier weight fabric or material will do.

What makes a shacket unique is that it can be worn as both a shirt and a jacket, although women tend to style them as a jacket over another cute shirt or tank top because of the oversized fit.

Just like a cardigan or a flannel shirt, the right shacket can really elevate an outfit and provide some extra warmth during the colder months. Like during fall and winter. But they are also really nice for spring, as the weather is cold in the morning but warms up by the middle of the day.

Why Is It Called A Shacket?

It is not clear where the term “shacket” first originated. We saw this type of layering piece rise in popularity in the 1940s, but pop culture has just recently given clothing that is a cross between and shirt and a jacket it’s official name as a shacket.

According to research found here, “The first “shacket” was the CPO jacket, a thick wool shirt with breast pockets issued to chief petty officers in the US Navy in the 1930s.” It was not the first and it will not be the last time that American fashion has taken notes from military attire. Very cool, and very fashion-forward.

I worked on a more casual outfit with neutral colors in case you wanna go to a pumpkin patch, a brewery, or just hanging out with friends. I put together the tank top, jeans, belt and a Chelsea boot to complete the look. When it comes to this look, don’t be afraid to add a pop of color if you want. Like red or burgundy. And although it looks better to leave the shacket unbuttoned, I love that I can button up this shacket when I get cold. Don’t forget to add some accessories that match the belt to top off the look.

Next up is for a rainy day kinda vibe, I just put together a pair of leggings and hoodie sweatshirt with some sneakers and this will be my errand look, school drop-off kinda style. Long sleeves over long sleeves are perfect for those frigid mornings. To make your outfit even warmer, you can opt for fleece-lined leggings and a cute winter hat.

Date Night Shacket Outfit Idea

I dressed up the shacket here wearing it over a knit dress and a knee-high boots. Ready for some brunch with the girls or a date night chic and comfy outfit. If you are trying to look cute, this is such a classy look! What I love most about this outfit is how the oversized shacket perfectly balances the tight dress and boots. Perfection. This outfit would also look good with a denim shacket.

Hygge Shacket Outfit Idea

Worked on just throwing in your shacket over your lounge set, making you look put together and not looking like as if you just got out of bed. Perfect for those warmer fall days, before the weather turns completely cold. If it is a little cooler outside but you still want to wear shorts, consider adding a corduroy shacket for added warmth. Like when you are going to the gym on cold days. Just add the shacket for the cold walk into the gym and to and from your car, and there is no need to bring an extra change of clothes.

Athleisure Shacket Outfit Idea

Lastly, more of an athleisure style, just put it over your gym clothes to make you warm and straight to your local grocery store or get you some coffee on the way and you are all set. I was also thinking having a turtleneck top underneath. That would also be a perfect look pairing it with leather pants or jeans or shorts.

For those who gave up on wearing skinny jeans. Today, I am sharing how to style flared jeans, another way to jazz up your jeans game. So I loved this style when I was in my 20s which was around the early 2000s and so happy that it is coming back. So I styled it 2 different ways here you but will add different other options for you.

Another one that I love is the Fall Trend Women’s poncho. It is a chic and classic layering style for all your simple casual looks. I opted for a neutral color here to add sophistication. It is easily paired with anything you can think of. This is a very easy look to re create and can be worn for smart casual look, brunch with friends, strolling around the mall and other simple things you might wanna dress up casually.

I can also imagine wearing this if you are dining outdoors and you are near a fireplace sipping some wine with your family or friends. Even as a simple date night outfit I will consider wearing this. The one I am wearing here is like a shawl type but some of the versions I added on top have like an oversized sweater style look. It can be paired with leggings, jeans, slacks and a whole variety of pants you can think off. It just depends on your personal style really

As for the shoes, you can wear it like mine with ankle boots, knee high boots, if you are more on the rugged look can pair it with combat boots as well. So many styling options and looks that you can recreate with just one poncho. I must say this is another Fall style staple you should have in your closet.

Jumpsuits can be worn many different ways like a casual style and also a good form of work wear as they are very comfortable.
