Fitness Journey Part III

Hello friends!

Sorry I have been able to update you on my fitness journey for the past two weeks. We are still adjusting since my mom left on the 22nd of July. I am still trying how To figure out a workout schedule and routine. I haven’t been able to do the nike training for 2 weeks now. What has been working for me was, if I am with the kids, I just do a lot ab workout. Because I will not be able to workout with equipment if my son is around. Very unsafe, because he moves around it. I also was able to do some Zumba along the way, while they are playing in the room, I’ll do that. Even at times, my son will want me to carry me. Then he will be my weights 🙂 of course I move gently when I am carrying him.

As far as food intake. This S health is really helping a lot, I can keep track with my food intake and how many calories a day, water intake, how many steps I have taken (this one was not that accurate because sometimes I do not have my phone with me, so I know I have walked more than what that app calculated for me).

So far, I only gained 1 lb in that 2 weeks but the good news is, I have lost a little bit on the arms close to half an inch and 1/2 inch around my waist, thigh is the same. I guess all my ab workout paid off, I also use the tummy trimmer, it’s like a corset it is suppose to give shape. I also lift 6 lbs weights usually when the kids are not around.

Yesterday, I woke up early, then I was able to do the 30 min elliptical for cardio, ab workout and some weight lifting.

Overall, I know I am improving, my food intake has been healthy, my husband also noticed that I am improving, I notice it too. And I feel good about it.

As far as my workout buddies:

Silvia and Gauri has been working out good, they send me snap chats after their workout so I know they are keeping track. As far as Lena, I haven’t asked her about it. On the next post I will give you picture updates also with our measurements.

I hope we all inspire you. Shout out for all the moms out there who are on the same journey. It is really hard specially when you have small kids, I just realizing it. Because for 2 years we had helped from our parents to take care of the kids so it was really easy for me to keep up with that part. Right now, I am trying to work out on a best schedule to fit in my workouts.

Becoming Our Lifestyle

Hello dear readers! It is Sunday once again and I am here to introduce to you my other fitness buddies. As I have said on my previous blog that this journey is for us ladies at work. We are here to inspire and encourage each other to be a better version of ourselves. In here you will see different body types with different goals to achieve be it to lose inches or weight or both. The ultimate goals is improving our lifestyle by eating healthier food and exercising.

She is my first fitness buddy at work. I introduced her the nike training app and she has been using it since then for about 6 months now if I am not mistaken. We challenge each other which is good, sometimes we will snapchat each other to show our workout routine or post workout selfies.

She eats a lot of meat and veggies. And every ones in a while sweets, she loves drinking coffee I must say. She is very active too, she runs, plays soccer, goes to the gym. She also swims.

Her goal is to maintain to be fit and improve her muscle tone.

Lena is also very active, she goes to the gym and she eats a lot healthy food. I always see her munching on her veggies and dips.

She is also into improving her lifestyle. She loves drinking coffee but she also loves drinking water which is a good thing, she tries to balance them. She loves to eat, but the good thing about it is she is into fitness now. She got herself a personal trainer recently and has been doing good with it. She is trying to lose weight, ever since she started with her trainer. She already lost 7 lbs. way to go G! She is also getting married this November.

As for me, so far so good, last week I only missed 1 day of exercise. I have been doing the nike training get lean program and It is 5 days a week. There was one day that instead of doing the Nike training my girlfriends and I went for a free Zumba class at the National Harbor. Oh it was so much sweat and fun! There was a lot of people, the weather was perfect and you can see the sunset because it was from 7-8pm.

As for my food intake, I had been eating a lot of sweets I must admit by I have been good with my calorie intake. I always input it on the S health, I also have to admit I have not been good with water, average intake was 5-6 glasses a day. I have to do better than that. I usually drink lemon water.

For a recap for last weeks, there was not inch loss for me but I lost another 1 lb. my goal is 126 lbs so one more lb to go. I really need to tone, that looks much better when I am toned.

This was my tummy 21 weeks ago when I was consistent with my workout.

Product Review: Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun

I have been asked a lot of times what product I use to get my tan, so here it is. I wanna look tanned because I have spider veins that I want to hide. I am fair skinned and those green spider veins are so visible. So I found this product few months back and I have been using it since then.

This product really gives me a nice tan! It really masked my spider veins. What is even better is that I do not have to be under the sun And can get tanned in few minutes. Another good thing about it is that it last for 1 week.

The was another question, do they stain? Yes if you will put in your clothes right after application, it stated at the back label that it dries after 60 seconds but to be sure I put on clothes after 2 minutes. I also use surgical gloves instead of my hand so it won’t stain my palms. (Make sure you are not allergic to it if you plan to use one).

Another thing, if you want to add more color you can apply it again the next day. So as when you are satisfied with the color then you don’t have to apply anymore.

If you have been following my blog sometimes you’ll see me light skin and sometimes tanned.

Becoming my Lifestyle…

Since I have talked about the How to Get Lean Plan last week on my blog. I thought about being consistent with this healthy lifestyle. I already have a plan in place I just have to start doing it. I am actually doing it (exercises and eating healthy), I just have to be consistent with it.

Why do I want to do this? First, I want to be a good example to my family. Secondly, being in a healthcare field, it is an eye opener for me to see younger patient which are sicker than my 90 something year old patients. From there you can tell who took good care of themselves when they were younger. Thirdly, I also have different diseases that runs in my family (like cancer), that is why I am trying to improve. lastly, I want to be a better version of me.

What do I want to achieve? Be fit, Be toned! Specially on my mid section, I was already close to it but then again my consistency was not there. This time in this mini series, I will make it live as to encourage myself and my readers that this is it. I know I can do this! And when I started doing this exercises, I noticed I am more energetic, I don’t get tired easily. Which is a good thing, as a working mom.

I am here to spread health and fitness, health is wealth!

I would also like to mention, that this wouldn’t be possible without my mom and my husbands support. Thank you!

Just want to share this too. During workout, sometimes my daughter will exercises with me, practicing her gymnastic skills. Now that is good mother and daughter bonding, training them young.

So Here is my open diary for this fitness journey. Every week I will update you guys with my progress. Like I said I am here to be an encourager and be a good example.

I began this journey on July 8, 2015

What did I do on the 8th?
I signed up for my S Health from my Samsung phone. I believe other phones also have different apps like this. On there I was able to keep track on my food and water intake and steps that I made for the day. So far, I am on track. I actually lost 2 lbs already. I only needed to lose 3 more lbs to reach my goal and then that is it, I need to tone.

I still use my nike training app, I really love it. It has 3 programs to choose from that you can follow week per week. One program is usually 4 weeks 15-30-45 mins workout plan outlined. It has videos to follow so to make sure you are doing the workout right.

I tend to eat at least 2-5 fruits a day, I put a lot of protein on my diet. I still eat rice at least once a day. And I am still working on being able to drink 8 glasses of water everyday.

I also follow this ladies on instagram. They have been my inspiration because I can relate to them, they are also moms like me. @milesaubrey @inaraymundo95 @kim_fairley.

For this health and fitness regimen. All body types are different so do what you think is best for you, and if you have health issues. Consult your doctors first.

Last Friday, I was also in search for workout buddies. It is always good to have people around you with the same goal. Because you encourage each other. So when I was talking to my co workers. They liked my idea, so they said they would like to participate with this lifestyle journey.

I will keep you guys updated once I have all their information. This is gonna be exciting! We are still brainstorming on how we can further motivate each other.

Our group will consist of all ladies, with different body types and different habits and exercises that we follow, different diet. So that most of you can relate.

Another Idea for Summer Fun: Mother and Daughter Ice Skating

I just wanna share to all of you our mother and daughter bonding last Saturday. It was a good idea for summer. I always thought that it will only be nice to do that in the winter. I was so wrong, I definitely recommend this for summer specially with the hot weather. Nice to cool down and when you glide in the ice it was relaxing.

My daughter and I together with out friends had a blast. It was impromptu, not planned at all, but that makes it more fun.

My friend texted me late around 8pm asking if me if we want to join them for ice skating. The place is just 5 minutes away from home. So I was like, sure why not not. That is also what I like with my friends, they can come up with fun activities just like that. The rink was open for public for $6 per person from 8-10 pm, not bad right?

Since my husband worked that night, it was be a good opportunity for my daughter and I to have a girls night out. You might be wondering about my son. He is too young to be going to an ice skating rink. I don’t want him to catch a cold so I asked my mom to watch him. Really thankful for my mom being with us for a while.

So I told my daughter that we are going to meet our friends at the ice skating rink. She was already excited. It always gives me a good feeling that I am making my children happy. I know all parents feel the same way. She has no idea what ice skating is but you can already see the happiness in her eyes. what I like with my daughter whatever things be it a very simple kiss and hug, she really appreciates it.

As we got to the Ice Skating rink, her two girlfriends where already there skating. My friends, their mom (my friends) was there watching them from the side, like stage mommies. But Since this will be my daughter’s first ice skating experience. I went with her in the rink, it also brought the child in me, I must admit. That was my second time to be on ice.

I know how to use the roller blades and skates that is why it was automatic for me to use the ice skates. I did not need the walker. Adi used the walker, if that is what it is called, not sure. And her friend was assisting her too. Oh you can see the joy in their face. They were really having fun.

To recap it all, after the ice skating session, went out at the lobby and gathered all the summer courses they have. Adi wanted me to enrol her since she is on summer vacation for gymnastics class.

And this is not only for friends, mothers and daughter, this is for everybody. I hope I was able to give another fun idea for this summer beating the heat. Just make sure to bring sweater and socks with you so you don’t freeze inside.

How To Get Lean Plan

Not everybody has the luxury of time to read a whole book. So I decided to give you a break down of what I have learned by reading Lisa Roberts book about Lean Muscle Diet: A Comprehensive Diet And Workout Plan in Building Lean Muscle

Like what I have been saying over my previous blogs regarding a healthy lifestyle. Eating healthy and regular exercises is the key (you should be lifting weights too).

To start with you gotta have these food. (Excerpts from lean Muscle Diet book)
If you wanna get the full details on why each of these food can give you lean muscle you can find it in her book.
Apple
Beef
Beets
Brown rice
Cantaloupe
Eggs
Ezekial 4:9 bread
Greek yogurt
Oranges
Organic cottage cheese
Organic milk
Quinoa
Spinach

Here is the meal plan sample Lisa Roberts have in her book.

Breakfast:
2 eggs (whole/hard boiled)
8 egg whites
1 full cup of oatmeal
1 pc of fruit

Mid morning snack:
Protein shake
Handful of almonds

Lunch:
1 cup of rice
Chicken breast
A bowl of garden salad

Mid afternoon Snack:
Protein rich snack (hard boiled eggs, pumpkin seeds or mixed nuts)

Dinner:
BBQ steak
Baked potato
A cup of steamed veggies

Before bed snack:
Handful of almonds (preferably raw)
A cup of cottage cheese

Take note: Everything has to be in moderation as I always say, too little or too much of everything is bad or it will just defeat the purpose. Also be careful when eating nuts because too much of it in your diet might increase your uric acid and it can lead to gout. As what had happened to me and my husband. We went over the regular serving per day. We ate too much of it plus we have been drinking soy milk on top of it. When we had the lab works done, it was way over the normal values and we can feel our big toe hurting.

If you have some medical condition going on, before trying any workouts. Ask your doctor first. And also do workout and incorporate weight lifting. I already did this (eating this lean muscle diet and following nike training app using the Get Lean program) for like 3-4 weeks and I lost inches and my muscle was better. I must admit that I have been slacking lately because being a mom. It is hard to be consistent.

This coming July I will start a series of my workout and an update of my meal plan to be able to help and be an inspiration to all of you out there. My Way of Relaxation

What is stress? According to Wikipedia… stress typically describes a negative condition or a positive condition that can have an impact on a person’s mental and physical well-being.

I just want to share to all of you one of the things that helps me feel great when I have body aches and feeling stressed. It is what we call massage. Yes, massage!

In our everyday life we get so busy that in times we feel stressed. It is a feeling of muscles being sore, tensed. You need to de stressed definitely. Give yourself a treat. You only have one body. You gotta take card of it because specially if you are a parent you gotta take care of your children.

Since the last year, my husband and I set aside a budget for massage because it is expensive here in the USA. But for me it is worth to have a budget for it once a month. Because like what I always say, health is wealth. Prevention is better than cure. And studies says that stress can cause cancer and a lot more health conditions you don’t want to have.

If you are on a tight budget there are massage therapist at a mall that offers massage on a specific body part you needed the most attention and it is cheaper. There are also massage chairs that offers few minutes of massage relaxation for a very minimal amount.if you really want a full body massage you can check out Groupon they usually have good deals. My friend just bought 3 full body massage 1 hour each for $90.

Here are the benefits of massage:
It relaxes tight muscles thus reduces spasm and cramping
Alleviates back pain
Helps relieve migraine pain
It improves your bodies circulation
Helps you recover from strenuous activities
It helps reduce post surgery adhesion
It can help lessen depression and anxiety

It is worth you hard earned money.

Good to know from CNN: The exercises physical therapists know lead to injuries

It was so nice to ran into this article online specially if you are into fitness, exercising and or going to the gym.

As a physical therapist this is so true. That is why we always tell our patients about warming up and cooling down before exercises. It is also helpful to have a personal trainer and to do stretching before and after. I can get into details regarding how to prevent an injury when exercising.
